French Empire Gilt Bronze and Marble Clock of Seated Cupid Holding a Rose

About the Item

Finest quality period French Empire clock depicting a seated winged cupid holding a rose; the case in gilt and patinated bronze. The clock show a gilt cupid sitting cross legged on the clock plinth, with one foot resting on a quiver and his left hand holding a rose. The stepped green marble and patinated bronze base is decorated with a gilt frieze across the front featuring the mask of Apollo, the base resting on four toupie feet. The white enamel dial with Roman numerals is signed Ledure Bronzier a Paris under the numeral 12, and Hemon above the numeral 6. The clock has its original silk-string eight day movement ringing the hours and halfs on a bell.
