About the Item

Fine and elegant work of gold-plated bronze as mantel clock in the romantic style. Guilloche silvered dial covered with patina. The bronze sculpture was made using the casting technique from a wax model. At an early 19th centurу, mercury (fire) gilding was used. In the architecture of the French clock cases, there is an underlined interiority, in contrast, for example, to the English ones, in which the emphasis was on demonstrating the functionality of the movement. French craftsmen placed small round boxes of movements in rather voluminous, artistically executed cases, often decorated with sculptural compositions. The French masters were famous all over the world for the filigree of their castings, the detail of their chasing, the picturesqueness of gilding and patination. French decorative bronzes, including clocks, were among the most popular interior items on the world market in the late 18th-19th centuries. Size app.: 37 cm (roughly 14.6 in) high, 28 cm (roughly 11 in) wide, 9cm (roughly 3.5 in). Exceptionally good decorative condition, minor age and usage wear, dial has refreshed numerals, movement is not running but it strikes – we don’t guarantee accuracy of time and functionality overall. Please study high-res pictures for cosmetic condition! In person actual item may appear darker or brighter than in our pictures, strictly depending on sufficient light in your environment. Weight of app. 3.5 kg is going to measure some 5 kg packed for shipmed.
