About the Item

A stunning and important French mid-19th century Louis XV style ormolu clock signed H. Richardin, Rue Tureene, Paris. The Richardin Horlogerie of Paris pieces can be found at the Paul Getty Museum in California, as well as, other important venues throughout the world. This nicely sized and delicate gilt bronze clock with French movement of high quality. The scrolling classical forms and its abundance of foliage and floral motifs exemplifies the French Rococo style. The piece is elaborate and highly detailed. The French movement is unusually small to fit the case, is of high quality and is fitted with a platform escapement. It therefore requires no setting up, simply place on a firm and fairly level surface. It runs for 8 days, strikes on a bell and is in excellent, cleaning and running condition having been fully cleaned and tested by professionals. The ormolu dial has enamel cartouches with roman numerals all surrounded by foliate garlands and top crown of a large twisted acanthus leaf. The high quality French movement has the markers mark on the backplate. All original gilt. The condition of the case is excellent, there are no losses and the finish of the gilding is bright and clean. The enamel dial is also in excellent condition. The bezel is also in great antique condition. The clock displays beautifully. Ready for your home! A very fine and large Early 18th Century French Louis XV period corne verte (green horn) and ormolu mounted cartel or wall clock. The impressive cartel rests on its original socle - wall mounted base. Signed on the original white enamel dial with hand painted Roman numerals within a hand blown glass door with ormolu trim and decorated with ornate bronze. Impressively chiseled or ciselé work throughout. Original gilding throughout, exquisite patina. The wonderful gilt bronze case is signed by the highly respected maitre ebeniste and clockmaker, A. Gosselin from Paris. It is surrounded by flowers and foliage. Antoine Gosselin ‘A. Gosselin’ (Antoine Gosselin 1731-1794, Paris, master in 1752). Antoine Gosselin who worked actively under Louis XV until the Revolution and was established in rue du Faubourg-Saint-Antoine, in Paris. He hand crafted magnificent pieces that were at the time only reserved for the King.
