About the Item

Gilt bronze and blue Turquin marble mantelpiece set consisting of a cage clock and two matching candelabra by RAINGO Frères, 19th century. We present to you this rare gilt bronze and blue Turquin marble mantelpiece set consisting of a cage clock and two matching four-light candelabra signed RAINGO Frères, Paris which dates from the 19th century. The cage clock is made of glass and rests on an ogee base decorated with a heart-shaped frieze ending on a rectangular gilt bronze base decorated with blue Turquin marble cartouches. It is flanked on either side by two quivers in the round and surmounted by a large covered vase decorated with handles decorated with acanthus leaves and a gilt bronze acorn. The white enamelled dial indicates the hours in Roman numerals spaced by bronze fleurs-de-lys and the minutes in Arabic numerals. It is signed RAINGO Frères in PARIS. In its glass case we find the wire movement in the shape of a radiant solar disk which is in perfect working order, the clock comes with its key. Finally, two four-branched candelabra, four lights accompany this set: Four windings, carrying four bobeches in chiseled bronze and blue Turquin marble are joined by a fluted and tapered shaft. About RAINGO Frères: The RAINGO Frères house was founded in 1823, it collected numerous medals at the Universal Exhibitions (London 1862 and Paris in 1867, 1878, 1889). From 1860, it made pieces for Napoleon III and the Empress Eugenie. They partner with big names like Auguste Moreau and François Linke to decorate their clocks. The works of the RAINGO brothers can be found in various museums including the Musée des Arts et Métiers in Paris, the Royal Museums of Art and History in Brussels, the Pezzoli Museum in Milan and the Palacio Real in Madrid. A stunning and very high quality French 19th century Louis XVI st. ormolu and Rouge Griotte marble clock signed Raingo Frères. The clock is raised by two elegant rectangular reeded supports at the front and circular spiral fluted feet behind below striking richly chased elongated rosettes centering a fine pierced fitted intertwined laurel branch also repeated at the rounded sides. At the center is an impressive pierced fitted ormolu mount with Rinceau shaped scrolled acanthus leaves and berried laurel garlands flanked by striking fluted columns with fitted decorative ormolu chandelles and stunning lightly curved richly chased cornucopias with ribbons at each side. The enamel dial displays Roman numeral hour markings and Arabic numeral minute markings with elegant pierced foliate ormolu hands framed within an elegant mottled bezel with foliate and beaded designs. Above is the remarkable top crown a richly chased berried laurel wreath, a quiver, arrows, a bow and the eternal flame all tied with a flowing ribbon and displaying a wonderful satin and burnished finish.
