About the Item

This Gothic Revival mantel clock is a fine example of early 19th-century French decorative arts, attributed to Charles Delaunay (Delaunay Chauvau). Crafted in dark patinated bronze and gilded bronze, the piece showcases a richly architectural silhouette inspired by Gothic cathedrals, with pointed arches, quatrefoils, and a dramatic spired top. Beneath the white enamel dial with Roman numerals, a finely sculpted gilded courtier sits on an elevated platform, dressed in Renaissance attire with a feathered cap and doublet, holding a sword. At his side rest a plume and a laurel wreath, evoking themes of chivalry, victory, or poetic contemplation. The clock is mounted on a stepped and pierced base with Gothic tracery, resting on four ornate ball feet. It features a pendulum mechanism with chime, and the movement is in working condition. Take into account that the colors on the items may vary depending on the type of lighting and the type of screen from which you see the images.
