A Louis XVI Style Gilt-Bronze and Sèvres Style Porcelain Mantel Clock, by Raingo Frères, Paris. The porcelain panels signed by Léonard Abel Schilt.

The twin train movement with Brocot escapement and suspension, sounding on a bell.
Of impressive size, this fine gilt-bronze and Sèvres style porcelain clock is in the form of an ovoid shaped Bleu Céleste ground porcelain vase with hand painted reserves and gilt-bronze handles, surmounted by a seated putto and inset with a circular 4 1/2 inch porcelain dial with Roman numerals and Breguet hands; the vase flanked by seated excogitative putti and raised on a plinth base mounted with finely painted porcelain panels of putti at play, above a guiulloche running pattern frieze and put down on flattened toupie feet.
Léonard Abel Schilt was a celebrated figure painter from the great Shilt dynasty of porcelain painters, active since 1818 at Sèvres. He is recorded at the national manufactory in the years 1877-1878 and 1891-1893. Schilt also maintained an independent atelier in Paris and was a noted Salon and Exposition exhibitor throughout the late 19th century.

Raingo Frères
Little is known about the French clockmaker and bronzier Raingo, who almost certainly apprenticed in Paris circa 1790. He moved to Belgium, circa 1800, probably for political reasons, and from the signatures on some of his clocks, it is known that he worked in Gand and Tournay. Later, in 1823, he is recorded as being clockmaker to the duc de Chartres.
The firm exhibited at many of the important exhibitions of the second half of the 19th century, including London in 1862, and was known for the fine quality of its ormolu in particular their superb gilding and chasing.

Raingo Frères
The clock-making company Raingo Frères built some of the most remarkable timepieces of the 19th century. Best known for its ornate mantel clocks, the company also masterfully crafted other works, such as candelabras and sculptures. Modeled on Renaissance, Byzantine and Empire styles, the company’s gilded garniture is some of the most recognizable artistic work of the 19th century. It displays the elaborate majesty prevalent in aristocratic and royal homes of the period.
Belgian watchmaker and metalworker Zacharie Raingo was the son of a watchmaker, and he took up the trade in his youth. He lived and worked in Belgium until 1813, when he relocated to Paris. During his time in Belgium, Raingo was inspired by Antide Janvier and developed his own planetary pendulum. In 1810, he patented an astronomical clock, a rotating spherical mechanism designed to emulate the behavior of celestial bodies.
In 1823, he founded Raingo Frères with his four sons, Adolphe, Charles, Denis and Dorsant. Established as both an industrial and commercial venture, the company quickly gained notoriety for its bronze work in addition to its fame as a clockmaker. It created works for an array of nobility and royalty, like the Duke of Chartres, King George V of England and Emperor Napoleon III of France, whose collection is now at the Louvre museum in Paris.
The company exhibited its works in the 1867, 1878 and 1889 World’s Fairs in Paris, winning numerous prizes, including a gold medal in 1889. Many museums and private collections boast works by Raingo Frères, including the Musée des Arts et Métiers in Paris and the Royal Museums of Art and History in Brussels.

Stamped ‘Medaille d’Argent Vincenti & Cie 1855’ and with the initials ‘L.R’.
This fine clock or timepiece has a spring-driven eight-day twin train movement by Vicenti et Cie, striking on a gong.
The gilt-bronze case is of square-section with a stepped pediment surmounted by musical trophies above a Vitruvian scroll frieze and rosettes to each corner, below is a circular enamel dial with Arabic numerals and floral swags, set within a finely painted iridescent green enamel panel depicting a courting couple in conversation. The sides are similarly painted with fair maidens in a wooded landscape and the back cast with strap-work and Vitruvian scrolls; a circular hinged door opening to reveal the movement.
Vincenti was a much respected clock maker, a Corsican who set up in 1823 in Montbeliard using machinery of his own design.

An exceptional Louis XVI style champlevé enamel and gilt-bronze mantel clock with finely painted neoclassical scenes by Leroy & Fils.

Stamped to the movement ‘LEROY & FILS A PARIS, 823’.
This fine gilt-bronze and champlevé enamel clock has an arched case with outset bulbous columns to the angles, it is surmounted by a drum top with a pierced scroll and ball finial and applied with expressive cherub mounts. The front and sides of the clock are all exceptionally finely painted with neoclassical scenes of figures in an architectural setting and the top and base enriched with fine polychrome champlevé enamel.
The clock has an enamelled chapter ring with Roman numerals interspersed with anthemion devices and a twin barrelled, eight-day movement striking on a bell.
The firm of Leroy et Fils was founded by Bazile Charles Leroy in 1789. He was a clockmaker to the Emperor Napoléon, The Duke of Orleans, The Duke of Bourbon and Princess Pauline. French porcelain mantel clock housed in an arch top case with raised stepped plinth and resting on scroll feet. Outstanding hand painted panel to the front with gilt surround depicting two maidens attending a fatally wounded knight. This is a lovely antique French ormolu, gilt bronze, mantel clock with Bleu Celeste Sevres porcelain panels, by the renowned maker, Raingo Freres, Paris, circa 1850 in date.
The clock features a beautifully cast pair of ormolu cherubs surmounted with game, to include fish, boar and pheasant, above a circular enamel dial with Arabic and Roman numerals. The dial is flanked by porcelain panels with gilt highlights, depicting playful cherubs.
The clock has an 8 day striking movement and is complete with pendulum, bell and key.
This incredible clock is a must have for any collector of ornamental and decorative pieces.
