About the Item

This mantel clock is crafted in a neoclassical style of the Napoleon III period (1824-1830). The mantel clock’s pedestal is made from turquoise malachite and golden ormolu. Malachit is well known for bringing the outstanding color but also for being an unique material that has the effect of purifying the air and removing evil for the owner. The man is seen kneelingdown to show his respect and admiration for the beautiful girl sitting in a queen-like posture. The two characters depicted on the clock are so realistic that their faces clearly show their expressions. The pedestal contours are all skillfully inlaid with gilt bronze by the artisan to create distinctive motifs such as anthemia and acanthus. In addition, the two lower corners of the pedestals representst two dragons holding their heads high in pride. The enamel dial has 12 Roman numerals for the hour and 12 Arabic numerals for the minutes. The two seconds and hour hands with leaf motifs are in gilt bronze, expressing elegance and nobility.
