Small Georgian Bracket Clock by Thomas Robbins, Chatham Fine mahogany arch top case standing on a raised, moulded plinth and resting on four brass ball feet with red silk lined fishscale frets to each side. Convex brass bezel with convex glass opening to the painted dial with original ‘blued’ steel hands, Roman numerals signed ‘Thomas Robbins, Chatham’. Glazed rear door opening to a substantial eight day timepiece Fusee movement with anchor escapement. Border engraving to the backplate with pendulum holdfast and signed Thomas Robbins, Chatham. The frontplate of the movement is marked Thwaites 4146 underneath the dial. C.1780 ‘Kent clocks and clockmakers’by Micheal Pearson lists Thomas Robbins as working in Chatham from c.1740 to c. 1780
