Very Fine and Elegant Fire, Gilt Bronze Mantle Clock in the Romantic Taste

About
A very fine and elegant fire, gilt bronze mantle clock in the romantic taste, the base resting on scroll feet connected with leafy volutes centered by a female mask under a decorated frieze showing animal heads on the corners, the pediment with a central flower basket held by birds of paradise between flowering scrolls on the corners and topped by an egg – and – dart frieze. On top a lady of quality in a romantic dress sits on a cushioned chair and foot stool holding a play entitled “ La chercheuse d’ esprit acte 2 “ ( the soul searcher part 2 ).
France, Napoleon III style and period : circa 1860-1880.
The clock is fire – gilt with 24-carat gold, burnished to show the alternating matt and shiny surface so typical of this technique which nowadays is forbidden because of health hazard for the craftsmen who applied it.
Measure: Height 45 cm.
