About the Item

William IV bracket clock Fine mahogany drum head bracket clock standing on a raised moulded plinth and resting on pad feet. Inset central flame mahogany panel with carved roundels below a re-painted dial signed W.Coxhead, Market Place, Reading with ‘blued’ steel hands and Roman numerals. Glazed ‘keyhole’ rear door opening to a substantial eight day double fusee movement with shouldered plates striking the hours on a centrally mounted silvered bell. This fine English bracket clock still retains its original bracket, C 1830 Watchmakers and clockmakers of the world by Brian Loomes lists William Coxhead as working at Market Place, Reading from1830 to 1877. His sister Ann Coxhead is listed as a wheelwright in Swan Street.
