About the Item

A fine important Russian bronze patinated Malachite pendulum coronation clock with a Paris movement. 'Psyche Crowning Cupid' from Greek mythology. Featuring finely detailed patinated bronzes of winged cupid & psyche after Claude Michallon (1751-1799) standing on either side of a domed malachite plinth enclosing the gilt beveled glass dial with Guilloche trim. Psyche is Crowning Cupid, mounted on a Malachite conforming rectangular platform base supported on gilt bronze winged claw feet. The movement with anchor escapement, silk thread suspension. It has been totally re-conditioned, in good working order. 1828 date marked on the springs-there are also initials of the clockmaker-T.N. #28142 A clock such as this was purchased by the richest clientele including the duc de Richelieu, the marquis de Martel and viscount de la Rochefoucauld.
