About the Item

A rare Burmantofts Faience art pottery foliate design mantel clock probably dating from around 1890. The clock of ovoid shape stands raised on two scroll feet with a large centrally fitted movement with Roman numerals, hinged front cover and front key wind. The body of the clock is decorated in low relied with stylized floral and scroll panels and is decorated in bright yellow glazes which have run darker in places. The clock is marked with an impressed BF mark to the base along with the model number 1259 The clock movement does not have a key and has not been tested but appears in good condition. Literature: Jason Wigglesworth Burmantofts Faience A Compendium of Design, private press, page 58 for a comparable example. Provenance: From the private collection of a Belgium based Gentleman collector. Acquired from an extensive and important single owner private collection. In goo presentable condition with a small chip and some glaze fritting to the front edge. The clock mechanism has not been tested but appears in good condition.
