About the Item

Desk table clock designed by Charles & Richard Comyns. This is a beautiful desk clock created by the top notch and prestigious silversmith company of Charles & Richard Comyns. The case was designed in a rectangular shape with a curved pediment with neo-classic patterns in United Kingdom in the 1919. It was carefully crafted with parts made-up in solid .925/.999 sterling silver, finely carved shell and cedar wood. It is mounted in a rectangular base with 4 bun feet and fitted at the reverse with a hinge door. Specifications: French movement, mechanical for 8 days and analog dial in white porcelain with roman numerals and blue Breguet steels hands. Materials: Sterling silver, enamel, wood and shell. Weight: 691.4 Grams, (27.22 Dwt). Measures: 152.4 mm by 63.5 mm by 82.5 mm (6 x 2.5 x 3.25 Inches). Hallmarks: Stamped with British control marks; the mark of the lion for the assay and guaranty of the .925/.999 sterling silver, the mark for the city of London, the gothic letter D for the year of production 1919, the five digits serial reference number and signed as follows, "C&R C. A2010". Charles & Richard Comyns They were very famous maker, one of the oldest and most prestigious British silversmiths whose hallmark name can be traced back to the early 17th century. This prestigious firm of manufacturing silversmiths was originally established by William Comyns in 1859 when he purchased the business of Robert Tagg, an outworker of Rundell, Bridge & Co. The firm became William Comyns & sons in 1885 when sons Charles and Richard were admitted to the partnership. When William Comyns died in January 1916, the business became William Comyns & Sons ltd (Charles & Richard Comyns) in 1930, with Richard H. Comyns as permanent governing director. Always created fine quality and made silver for other retailers including Tiffany & Co. of New York. In 1953, the company was purchased by Bernard Copping and is now one of the few surviving manufacturing silversmiths in London. Note: This piece has been produced during the reigning period of King George V. (1910-1936). Note: It is in great antique condition and the case has been recently refinished. The movement has been cleaned, oiled and serviced; it is in perfect running time. Condition: The overall condition of this Charles & Richard Comyns desk clock is excellent. Beside the little normal wear there is no damage to any part. All parts are secured in the settings. This clock has been carefully inspected to guarantee the condition and authenticity.
