About the Item

A beautiful and finely detailed French 19th century Neo-Classical period Alabaster, Ormolu, Sainte-Anne Grand Dessin marble, and patinated Bronze annular clock. This wonderful clock is supported by a square Sainte-Anne Grand Dessin marble base with scrolling Ormolu plaques on each side. Above is the Alabaster stepped pedestal with Ormolu plaques on each side depicting Poseidon and Demeter representing the different seasons. Resting atop the pedestal and next to the clock is a patinated Bronze cupid with an Ormolu quiver and arrows, and a helmet and shield of Poseidon on the opposite side. Surrounding the platform are swaging berried floral Ormolu garlands and rosette pendants. The annular clock is raised on an Ormolu socle with a foliate decorated bottom edge and mottled upper band. The urn shaped clock is tastefully decorated with a band of palmettes and berried foliate pendants between. On either side of the clock are interlocking Ormolu snake handles that rest atop the dial. The removable fluted Alabaster lid is decorated with berried laurel vine chandelles and an Ormolu top finial, and reveals the mechanism inside.
