Miniature Egyptian Style Walnut Bracket Clock, Barraud & Lund, London Rare miniature English fusee bracket clock housed in an Egyptian style walnut case with ebony mouldings, stepped top and resting on four brass bracket feet. Gilded and chased bezel opening to the gilded dial with finely engraved centre, Roman numerals and original ‘blued’ steel hands signed Barraud & Lund, London 3033. Hinged back door opening to the eight day fusee timepiece movement of exceptional quality, with anchor escapement, regulating pendulum and pendulum holdfast. The backplate signed Barraud & Lund, Cornhill and numbered 3033. C.1850 The company of Barraud & Lund was established in 1795 by Paul Phillip Barraud. When Richard Lund joined as partner in 1838 the company became known as Barraud & Lund. Barraud & Lund were highly regarded London makers and were celebrated for their high quality chronometers, regulators, pocket watches and clocks. The company ceased trading in 1929. Watchmakers and clockmakers of the world by Brian Loomes lists Barraud & Lund as working from Bishopsgate within Cornhill c.1839-63.

A very fine and rare miniature bracket timepiece made by one of Britain’s most revered horological partnerships. The eight day single fusee movement held by four turned pillars with anchor escapement, adjustable lenticular pendulum and hold fast, is of exceptional quality. Housed in an ebonised and glazed bell top bracket clock case of a design particularly associated with this firm, the silvered roman dial with subsidiary date dial in the break arch is signed and also on back plate. This clock is in excellent original condition with a fully glazed back door and side panels with the U shaped carrying handle, a distinctive trademark of Grimalde and Johnson, standing on turned acorn feet. William Johnston is first recorded in partnership with Peter Grimalde between 1810 and 1825, before setting out on his own, Grimalde & Johnston were celebrated precision chronometer makers, and are known for making this style of miniaturised bracket clock during this period in very limited numbers.
