19th Century Church Clock Face

About the Item

A monumental church clockface from a chapel in northern France. The dial on the face is hand-painted in black, white, and red, the colours fading over time to create the most wonderful patina. This clock face was removed from the chapel clock tower at the beginning of World War I and put into storage so it would not get lost or damaged during the war. The clock face was thought to be lost until it was discovered recently at a chateau in France. The clock is a wonderful piece of history, thought to be lost a century ago. Fully working with its original clock hands featuring new high-torque quartz movement. France, circa 1860.
