Stunning and perfect running wall clock from the Art Nouveau and Jugendstil era. If you like rare Arts & Crafts antiques in general and marvelous clocks in particular then this handcrafted wall clock from circa 1900-1910 could be the perfect addition to your collection / interior. Only when you truly understand how many difficult and time consuming techniques it took to create this antique work of time telling art, will you be able to really appreciate its beauty, rarity and quality. First of all, a ceramics specialist created the hand painted, circular Majolica body. The hand painted and stylized flowers on that body are most likely done by another specialist. The elegant and 'flowing' lady figures & flowers would have been the work of a sculptor and the castings that were made from the sculptures were done by a specialist foundry. The unique chain would have been made by another specialist and the perfectly enameled and all hand painted dial face is another specialism that you would need to use yet another artisan for. It does not stop there, because inside of this masterpiece is a perfect working, brass, eight day clock mechanism that could only be ordered with a specialist clock maker. The clock maker may also have created the gilt bronze door in front of the dial face, but the rounded glass window inside would again have been made elsewhere. All those specialists in the early 1900s have created this incredibly stylish wall clock. And for it to be in this amazing condition and still running perfectly after more than a hundred years is like an ode to the dedication and skills of all the artisans working in that era. Apart from a little fading of the golden color on the spelter lady and flower sculptures this highly stylish antique could not be more perfect and we are proud to offer it to you, the 1stdibs Community, first.
