About the Item

A 19th century French inkwell in Champlevé enamel and bronze, mounted on an integrated tray with pen holders, in the Napoleon III style. This elegant desk accessory showcases the craftsmanship and aesthetic richness 19th Century. The inkwell is crafted in champlevé enamel — a labor-intensive technique where colorful enamel is fused into engraved bronze recesses. Motifs in blue, turquoise, red and yellow wrap the urn-shaped inkwell and its domed lid, all accented with gilded detailing. The bronze tray, with raised foliate borders and two handles, supports the inkwell and includes a curved pen holder. It stands on small feet. Dimensions: Width: 8,07 in (20,5 cm) Depth: 6,7 in (17 cm) Height: aprox 3,54 in (9 cm) Base height: 1,18 in (3 cm This inkwell would make a superb addition to collections of Napoleon III decorative arts, writing instruments, or fine French bronzes. Take into account that the colors on the items may vary depending on the type of lighting and the type of screen from which you see the images.

19th Century French Enameled Champlevé Inkwell

A stunning and rare French mid-19th century encier in Louis Revival taste with Moorish Arabesque influence. Handcrafted in Champlevé enameled gilt bronze with ornate and colorful blue, pink, red, green and white enameling over the heavily shaped and scalloped base, that borders the stunning Severes style (I have not removed it to check for a makers mark) enameled porcelain tray scene of frolicking putti. The stunning enameling continues on the raised inkwell body and hinged lid with finial. Opposite, two raised balls act as a pen rest, the inkstand raising on four ball feet. Similar to French cloisonne, each champlevé design is a one-of-a-kind work of art. A beautiful warm verdigris patina adds to its character and charm. This wonderful antique objet...
