Inkwell, variegated series. Glazed ceramic. Possibly Talavera, 17th century. Slightly rectangular inkwell, decorated with two semicircular pillars on each front, made of glazed ceramic with a type known as marbled finish in blue and brown tones. It has a central space at the top for the inkwell, and other small holes towards the corners (four in total) for the pens. This type of decoration is usually considered as a transposition to ceramic of pieces of certain stones, usually called jaspers. The terms marbled and splashed appear in the documentation on ceramic objects since 1550, and it is a decoration that could be carried out until the 18th century. · Size: 21x22,5x14 cm.
