About the Item

- A wonderful collection of Cornish serpentine stone lighthouses, English circa 1950. - There are 19 heavy stone models in total, each with their own unique design and all in original complete condition, rare to have all their tops intact. - Each stone serpentine lighthouse has been polished to reveal its true colors via their unique bands and veins and stand on a rocky base. - The stone is unique to Cornwall, and in particular the foot of the ‘Lizard’, the most south-westernly point of England, which is why one or two in the collection carry the 'Lizard' mark. - Price is for the entire collection and also includes a central serpentine dish seen in the photograph. Cornish Serpentine is thought to have gained its name from a likeness to a serpent's skin, the colors are unique and to be admired. While specimens had been collected for centuries, it was after a visit to Penzance by Queen Victoria & Prince Albert in 1846 that popularity grew, this Royal patronage of the industry led to a great popularisation of serpentine and these illustrious lighthouse models.
