About the Item

A fine antique commemorative plaque. With a silver (or silvered bronze) plaque set on a black glass base. The plaque dedicated with the inscription: "Jose Garcia y sus Zorros Grises a A.G.A.D.U. / Como Recuerdo de Suactuacion en Montevideo 1944" The inscription roughly translates as: "To Jose Garcia and the Zorros Grises (Gray Foxes) from A.G.A.D.U. / In a Memory of their performance in Montevideo in 1944". A.G.A.D.U. is an acronym for The General Association of Authors of Uruguay, a non-profit organization founded in 1929 devoted to the preservation & dissemination of the works (especially Uruguayan) authors & artists of all kinds. Jose Garcia y sus Zorros Grises was a orchestra/ensemble group led by Jose Garcia that played primarily tango music and achieved widespread popularity throughout various South American countries.
