French Art Nouveau Rene Lalique Perruches Glass Cachet, 1919

About the Item

An very rare and very early signed (R Lalique) original blue stained Rene Lalique 'Perruches' cachet -depicting a pair of parakeets, dating from 1919 (Marcilhac ref: 187). Cachets were made so you could have your initials cut into the base and then use it to stamp red wax seals for correspondence (fortunately no initials have been used on this piece). This early example has its original blue staining (a non permanent form of enamelling use by Rene Lalique on his best pieces). Rene Lalique was possibly the most famous of all glass makers -the most collectable pieces by him are those produced during his lifetime (ie pre 1945), most of these are signed, like this piece, R Lalique - just visible on the lower edge of the roundel in picture 2.
