About the Item

Elegant Venetian frame from the Louis XV period, dating from around 1750. Made of carved wood, it features fine decoration with rocaille motifs and leaf cartouches at the corners and along the sides, executed with great care and decorative sensitivity. The frame is lacquered and gilded, probably with an antique finish, although it is not possible to confirm that it is the original period lacquer. Time has given the surface a fascinating craquelure (creplè), typical of gouache gilding on gesso preparation. Good overall state of preservation: the structure is solid and intact, with slight surface falls consistent with the age of the object.
