Emerging in the 1930s, biomorphism was influenced by Surrealism's fascination with the subconscious and organic forms. Gómez's sensuously curved, carved, and varnished work evokes the female figure and shapes found in nature. The smooth, clean lines grow organically from the raw, exposed stone base bearing the artist's name and date. A subtle sensuality permeates the piece. The flowing wood grain, animated by graceful curves and swells hinting at feminine and natural fertility, is heightened by the stillness of the stone. Gómez interprets biomorphism's organic emphasis through a refined, modernist lens, striking a balance between abstraction and figuration. The work thoughtfully synthesizes biomorphic and Surrealist interests in a harmonious, contemplative object.
