Abstract Table Sculpture - Ceramic Celadon Sculpture Pair by Soo Joo

About the Item

This is a ceramic celadon sculpture pair by Soo Joo, designed to be an abstract table sculpture. Reminiscent of two Isles, someone crossing their legs, 송편 (Korean dumplings), succulent leaves, a hug, or a mama and baby whale, these Korean celadon ceramic sculptures by Soo Joo have a timeless beauty that is not affected by changing trends. The sculptures fit into any interior, with its natural ceramic material and its distilled form. Soo Joo's work uses natural materials that have a long history with mankind, which makes them comfortable and universally appealing. The artist creatively reimagines the essence of traditional Korean aesthetics into a modern minimal context in her work. Her intuitive eye for novel forms and her sensitivity to detail come from the artist’s background in fine art. These two ceramic sculptures were developed as a pair, to be placed nesting or facing each other. Korean Porcelain and celadon glaze is used for its traditional timelessness and proximity to nature; Korean celadon was originally developed to replicate the slight blue tint of freshly fallen snow. They are slip-cast sculptures, hollow on the inside. As table sculptures to bring the essence of nature indoors, these sculptures can be purchased individually or as a pair (each 22 x 10 x 9 in, 14 x 5 x 6 in).
