Astonishing Blue Ceramic Earth Sculpture (Laura Malpique, 1993)

About the Item

This amazing sculpture is made by the Portuguese artist Laura Canha Malpique, born in 1993. The earth sculptures, made of ceramics, are a symbol of man's transformation of earth. Ceramics is soil, rocks which have been weathered down to such small particles that they become a plastic material - clay. Clay, when fired, is again a rock - but with a human signature to it. To Laura, the earth sculptures are the perfect way to represent the manmade presence that influences every bit of our planet's surface. Organically, starting from natural resources, she argues that we reshape our surroundings to grow with us and our culture. According to Laura we make new versions of landscapes which are represented in this earth sculpture series.
