About the Item
This Brutalist inspired signed Aurelio Teno sensational Spanish sculpture is a combination of silvered bronze, quartz, amethyst and painted enamel over the bronze. It sits on a marble base. From every angle there are juts of quartz and amethyst of different forms that become appendages. The circa is 1970. Aurelio Teno was a famous sculptor from Cordoba, Spain, 1927-2013. He was a multifaceted artist who worked in many different mediums. He started his long career at the young age of 8 years old. He began as an apprentice to the sculptor Amadeo Ruiz Olmos and then moved to his own workshop specializing in silver before studying painting and drawing at the School of Arts & Crafts in Cordoba. He has a large important sculpture at the NE corner of the Kennedy Center in Washington DC called Don Quixote. This was his life work. It was a gift from Spain presented for the Bicentennial of the United States and was presented back then by King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia on June 3, 1976. This particular tabletop sculpture has a Brutalist beauty that is reminiscent of an exotic face that has years of bygone lore to it. It is truly amazing and will stimulate your senses every day. It has distortions mixed with beauty mixed with brutalist shapes with appendages of quartz and amethyst. It is a must see in person to fully grasp the nature of this sculpture. There is a plate that says Teno S-22 on a white marble base that is 3" x 3". This is an unusual fabulous sculpture for the discerning eye. it is much more interesting in person than the photos. It bridges both the unusual, the modern, the bizarre, the brutalist and the historical.
