Beast, One of a Kind Blue Bench in Brazilian Hardwood
About the Item
Sculpture-bench presented at the 12th São Paulo Design Week, in 2023, during the exhibition “How much time do we have?”. at the historic "Edifício Virgínia", a derelict building in the downtown core of Brazil's most populous city.
"Beast 2023" is a metaphor for Ana's creative process as a woodworker and designer, six years after I started working with solid wood. The project discusses the impossibility of control during creative processes, and the vitality that objects gain by distancing themselves from the initial illustration. As a metaphor of this power, the bench is a beast with two heads, going in opposite directions without letting itself be arrested.
The bench was made in two species of brazilian hardwood: jequitibá rosa (cariniana legalis) and muiracatiara (astronium lecointei ducke). Its main body was handcrafted in jequitibá rosa, colored in indigo blue and finished with a mix of tung oil and copal varnish. The wood clamp was made with a brass spindle and muiracatiara hardwood finished with shellac.
One of a kind piece.
