A 19th century plumber's turnpin, which came in all sizes, usually made of a hard wood such as Lignum Vitae. Used for opening up the ends of lead pipes, hence the indented lines on the piece.

HISTORY
Argentine lignum vitae, native to South America, is an extremely dense and durable hardwood prized for its rich brown heartwood, often with darker streaks. Also known as Verawood or Argentine greenheart, it is one of the heaviest woods available and is naturally resistant to decay, water, and insects.
