About the Item

This striking Expressionist sculpture in green polychrome glass is a rare 1950s original by Italian-French artist Gio Colucci (1892–1974). A sculpture that showcases the artist’s bold fusion of color, abstraction, and emotion. With a dynamic form that evokes movement and inner tension, the sculpture stands on a dark, textured base that enhances its visual contrast. This glass piece was among the final creations of Colucci’s career—marked by his fearless use of color and form. Today, Colucci’s works are held in several museum collections, including the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris. Colucci’s journey was as eclectic as his art. Born in Florence, he trained in architecture in Paris before turning fully to painting and sculpture in the 1910s. He exhibited alongside avant-garde icons like Gleizes and Duchamp-Villon and explored various styles—from Cubism to Expressionism and Abstract Art. During WWII, he took refuge in Provence and shifted to ceramics and sculpture, exhibiting his polychrome works at major salons and museums, including the Vallauris Museum and the Grand Palais.

Vintage Fluid and Massive Murano Sculpture in "Sommerso" Clear and Green Glass
Located in Milano, IT
Very big and heavy Murano vase in "Sommerso" glass. The peculiar technique, translating to "submerged", consists in joining two layers of different colours glass, so that one looks to be absorbed by the other. In this case, the two colours are green for the core and clear/crystal for the outer layer. The piece is fluid, and is an abstract sculpture in its own right beside being an actual vase. It is preserved in very good original conditions, with minor scratches/hairlines and the expectable patina of a four decades old object...
