Impossible Stack of Unlikely Advances Reaching Skyward by Batten and Kamp

About the Item

An Impossible stack of unlikely advances reaching skyward by Batten and Kamp Dimensions: D 20 x W 20 x H 78 cm Materials: Laser sintered titanium, granite stone. “An Impossible Stack of Unlikely Advances Reaching Skyward” is a sculpture featuring a digital assemblage of internet-sourced 3D files 3D printed in Titanium and mounted to a found stone. The assemblage comprises objects relating to the history of design, seen in the wider sense of the human tendency to manipulate nature. “A human hand reminiscent of religious iconography sits atop an industrial robot suction gripper, atop a Noguchu coffee table leg, atop a 3D scanned 1.7 million year old proto-biface stone tool, all precariously balanced on a fragment of the bedrock beneath our feet” Batten and Kamp launch a new collection of sculptural furniture inspired by New Zealand and science fiction. The Hong Kong based, New Zealand design duo’s limited edition ‘functional sculptures’ are born of their mixed interests in nature and science fiction and are being launched at a new solo exhibition in December Batten and Kamp is a creative partnership between interior architect Alexandra Batten and designer or artist Daniel Kamp. The duo creates one of a kind furniture, objects, installations, and interiors with clients and collaborators in Hong Kong, New Zealand and the wider Asia Pacific. Their projects have received accolades around the world, most recently their ‘Shelter to Ground’ collection was published in esteemed cultural publications such as Design Boom and Design Anthology. “Our work is a pursuit of raw beauty, of poetry in three dimensions. Art and design, creation and curation, product, sculpture, interiors, architecture - all of it - or none of it. Just beauty.”.
