About the Item

With each turn, a new equation unfolds. ‘Origami Object' is signed with a ‘G’ by the artist and edition on base, this atmospheric vessel is from the ‘Open-Form’ series. Here, Goudy is informed by the art of Japanese paper folding, nature, and mathematics. “origami open-form objects” are intrinsically minimal highlighted with complexity and sophistication. "My work lives at the intersection of organic forms grounded in the natural world, and digital 3D algorithmic design. As engineer turned artist, I think of my work as mathematics in porcelain, celebrating the connection between art and science. Perception, balance, and translucency are key elements that permeate my work...My work is slipcast paper-thin translucent porcelain, often colored with delicate soluble metal watercolors — I am especially drawn to cobalt blue, a reference to the ineffable blue of water and distance. I think of these objects as containers for light and atmosphere.” - Mark Goudy (American b.1955) *From the artist's website
