'The Cobalt Voyager' is a unique intense electric blue and black hand-blown and cut glass artwork with steel hull by the American and Swiss artists, Philip Baldwin and Monica Guggisberg. Combining Scandinavian and Venetian glass making techniques, their sculptural boat centerpieces are made from smaller blown and cut glass components nestled (in sand) inside a metallic hull. B&G Baldwin (1947, New York) and Guggisberg (1955, Bern) have been a collaborative team for over forty years. They share an instinctive appreciation for the subtle blending of art and design, functionality and abstract expression, combined with a love of material – especially glass. The list of museums and collections which have acquired their works is long and impressive. Individual showings, as well as participation in group shows, have given them opportunities to present their works at leading galleries and in major museums in Europe, Japan and the United States and their works rank among the best to be found in the international glass art scene. Working freelance, they have also designed successful products for international glass manufacturers since 1985. Their clients have included renowned firms like Rosenthal, Steuben, Corning and Venini. Over time their work has developed its own distinctive signature, based in Italian cold-working (battuto) combined with the Swedish overlay process for layering colours. They have been pioneers in adapting these techniques and in creating a distinct expression of their own. Colour, light, texture, pattern, and shape together reveal an undercurrent of meaning and value, adhering to the simplest of forms and clear lines. Over the years they have become more sculptural in focus, while seeking to imbue their work with a deep connection to archetypal forms and shapes, and striving for the highest level of craftsmanship. They address eternal symbols of human culture and history, while embracing contemporary evolution in form and meaning. Polychromatic Interleave 006, is a unique handblown glass vessel with fine filigree white cane detail by the British artist Liam Reeves. Warp & Fade 017 is a unique handblown glass vessel with fine white cane detail created by the British artist Liam Reeves. The entire piece is finally sandblasted creating a soft satin, diffused finish. "Untitled (Navy Shroud)", 2015 coiled nylon cord, sewing thread, urethane resin "Untitled (Navy Shroud)" was made as part of a group of works exploring objects as shroud spaces. The pieces create a space, the contents unknown, upon which the viewer's understanding becomes one reality, while another reality of the object itself is in continuous withdrawal from the viewers' perception. The exploration was based on contemplations of "Schrödinger's cat" and Object-Oriented Ontology. The work was made by coiling nylon cordage and sewing it together on an industrial zig-zag sewing machine. In the process of coiling, irregularities are introduced that alter the overall form as it is being made. These irregularities are placed and responded to improvisationally, working towards a composition that appears as if a thick cloth is loosely draped over an object of indeterminate form. The interior of the nylon vessel was then coated by hand with a black epoxy resin, which solidified the textile into a rigid shell. The result is a free-standing shroud-like object, which is to be placed into a space as a sculptural object, to conceal other objects, unsightly architectural features, etc. This work was first exhibited in 2015 at Patrick Parrish Gallery as part of my solo exhibition "what it is". It was later shown in 2017-2018 at the Cranbrook Art Museum in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, as well as several other group exhibitions. It has also appeared in several design and art publications in print and online.
