Schmidt Rhea Abstract Art Glass Sculpture
About the Item
This listing features an abstract tear drop shaped glass sculpture with purple, pink, and blue abstract glass pieces encased. This piece was created by the artists Michael Schmidt and Sonia Rhea.
The artists met at Pescadero State Beach in California during a Raku Ceramics Festival while they were both students at San Francisco State University. Sonia’s studies were in ceramics and psychology and Michael’s were in glass and philosophy. They began collaborating shortly thereafter. They moved to the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and built a studio on their property, where their collaborative work focused on colorful, contemporary paperweights in unusual shapes and beaded glass jewelry. They now reside in Arizona and Mexico.
