Trio of Pre-Columbian Foot Vessels, West Mexico
About the Item
Trio of Pre-Columbian Foot Vessels, West Mexico
The first is a reddish brown pottery shoe vessel from the Chipicuaro culture (ca. 500 BC – 300 AD) with a burnished surface and a wide mouth, which curves into a handle at the back. Two minor rim flakes and a restored hair line in the body; two collection numbers on the bottom. It measures 9.5 inches (24 cm) wide by 5-1/8 inches (13 cm) high.
The second is a salmon colored Michoacan (ca. 300 BC – 300 AD) double shoe vessel, with two flared openings. There are a few minor rim chips, otherwise intact; two collection numbers on the bottom. It measures 10 inches (25.4 cm) long by 3 inches (7.6 cm) high.
The third, a reddish-brown pottery Chupicuaro vessel, with a wide mouth and five small applied toes. Three large pieces reattached on the back, with restoration over the break lines; one collection number on the bottom. It measures 5-1/8 inches (13 cm) wide by 4 inches (10 cm) high.
