About the Item

Vintage signed and numbered hand crafted vessel by raku pottery master Tony Evans (1942-2009) Cali. This raku vessel features a flattened, spherical shape with a wide body and a narrow neck. The piece showcases a glossy green and metallic glaze, accented with flowing organic patterns in brown and black. The color transitions are typical of the raku firing process, which creates unpredictable and dramatic effects due to the rapid cooling and reduction techniques. Evan's distinctive style of raku pottery produced interesting fired and burnt glazes, both gloss and matte, that emulate patina, oxidation and verdigris, signed and numbered on the felt bottom. Raku is a technique of firing pieces in a 2,000 degree fire and then quickly submerging them in a pit of leaves or paper to reduce the chemical reaction on the surface, creating a broken eggshell texture or multi hued lusters of cobalt blue and copper red sheens. Dimensions: 7.5"h x 10"dai. Condition: Good. No condition issues observed. About the Artist: Anthony "Tony" Evans (1942-2009) was a ceramic artist renowned for his work with raku pottery, particularly during the 1970's and 1980's. He gained recognition for his innovative glazing techniques and the unique, abstract designs of his pieces. The raku firing process he employed is known for its unpredictability, which allowed Evans to create ceramics with vibrant colors, dramatic contrasts, and distinctive textures. His works often feature organic forms and flowing patterns, resulting from the rapid heating and cooling involved in raku firing. The signature on his pieces typically includes "Evans Raku" along with a date or code, identifying them as authentic creations from his studio. Tony Evans' ceramics are highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts of contemporary pottery. His contributions have left a lasting impact on the field of ceramic arts, particularly in the realm of raku pottery, where his pieces stand out for their artistic expression and technical mastery.
