Charles Reussner French Sculpture of a Bronze Owl Perched on a Natural Stone
About the Item
A sculpted bronze Art Deco style owl perched on a natural stone by artist Charles Reussner (1886 - 1961). This wise old owl is on the side of the natural form rock, shades of stone with white contrast beautifully with the rich, warm patina of the bronze. The bronze sculpture is signed in block letters on the tail of the owl. There are approximately 236 types of owls and I'd like to offer this little tidbit from The Spruce website, "Owls are some of the most popular raptors, not only for their nocturnal habits and amazingly expressive faces, but also for their outstanding abilities and the many legends and superstitions that surround them. They are found worldwide, and it can be easier than many birders realize to go owling and add these remarkable birds to their life list. - James Schwabe Sterling Silver and Gemstone Lion Sculpture Mounted on MalachiteLocated in Atlanta, GAA sterling silver sculpted lion by late American artist James Schwabe (1918 - 2008) mounted onto malachite. The eyes of the lion are gemstone (possibly cabochon emerald) and there appear to be highlights in a golden metal. The sculpture is signed on the malachite, J. Schwabe and there looks to be a number under the signature. It has been postulated that Mr. Schwabe sold his jewelry in New York under the brand, Patrice and Realm. Mr. Schwabe did design jewelry and other pieces in precious metals and gemstones for Cartier. This sculpture depicts a fierce and cute lion, seated on its haunches with its green eyes wide open. The lion sits patiently on a block of malachite, enjoying a polished surface contrasted with the natural form.
