About the Item
Exceptional Art Deco sculpture/lamp by Max Le Verrier (1891-1973) representing a monkey under an umbrella. It is titled "The Rain" or "Monkey with an Umbrella". Model created around 1925-1927 and rewarded at the Salon des Humoristes (Humorists Exhibition) in Paris in 1927. Table lamp with two bulbs.
Casting bronze with antic green patina.
The lamp shade is original and made of frosted glass.
Hexagonal base in veined black marble.
Signed on the base "Le Verrier".
Ancient edition which is very rare. Some wear and tear on the patina (see pictures) consistent with age.
Wired for European use.

Max Le Verrier
Max Le Verrier was born on January 29, 1891, in Neuilly-sur-Seine. He opened his studio in 1919 and won a medal at the famed 1925 Exposition in Paris that gave Art Deco its name. Later, he established a foundry that cast bronze sculptures for Pierre Le Faguays and Marcel Bourain, among others. Although Le Verrier experimented with other alloys, he continued to create pieces in bronze as well. Le Verrier died on June 6, 1973, in Paris.
