About the Item

SALE ONE WEEK ONLY Cockatoo's are birds of great distinction with their crown of plumage. Our Cockatoo in this porcelain is displayed in fully glory with exquisite details of not only his feathers, but the flower and tree branch. The colors are rich and soft and lend an ethereal beauty, delicate and light in a way that seems too perfect for this world, to this special piece. The posture is exquisitely rendered and the feathers incised with precision and care. This piece was created by Gunther Granget as indicated on the bottom. Born in Karlsruhe (Germany), Gunther Granget is considerd by critics and by collectors to be one of the world’s finest sculptors. After a carefree childhood spent in the love and affection of his family, at the age of 11 he suddenly had to grow up: the war took away his father, mother and brother. His father had taught him to love nature and to gather inspiration from it, and Gunther had soon developed his interest in figurative creation. His first medium was china, a noble and fragile material obtained from earth and fire. Then he discovered another material, which warmth and naturalness enchanted him immediately: wood.Gunther Granget has made exhibitions in famous museums and galleries all over the world. His studies lad him throughout Europe, America and Africa. Hutschenreuther porcelain is famous all over the world. Founded in 1814 by the family patriarch, Carolus Magnus Hutschenreuther, Hutschenreuther porcelain has remained within the family for nearly two hundred years. He employed artists, craftsmen, and sculptors from all over continental Europe. Hutschenreuther focused on quality and design. Lorenz Hutschenreuther, Carolus’ son, opened in 1857 another porcelain factory in the Bavarian town of Selb. The Selb factory was so well managed that it was able to compete with famous British porcelain brands. These two companies would eventually merge back into each other in the 20th century.
