Large 19th Century Bronze of a Hunting Dog with Pheasant

About the Item

Crafted by the skilled hands of Louis-Albert Carvin, a renowned French artist celebrated for his bronze animalier sculptures, this striking 19th-century masterpiece captures the essence of a hunting dog with a pheasant. Measuring 7 inches high, 17 inches long, and 10.75 inches wide, the sculpture meticulously evokes the dynamism and grace of the hunt, showcasing exceptional detail in the dog's muscular build and the feathered texture of the pheasant. Cast during the late Victorian era, it stands as a testament to the period's fascination with naturalistic and sporting themes. The patina on the bronze lends it a timeless allure, making it a distinguished addition to any collection of fine antiques or a stately decorative piece for enthusiasts of classical artistry. Born on August 7, 1875, in Paris, France, Carvin studied under Emmanuel Frémiet and Georges Gardet at the École des Beaux-Arts and later became a member of the Société des Artistes Français. Though renowned for his depictions of animals, his single best-known work was "La Muse de l’aviation" (1909), a trophy commissioned by the Aero Club of Sarthe for Orville and Wilbur Wright. Carvin passed away on January 6, 1951, leaving behind a legacy of exquisite craftsmanship and artistic innovation.
