I knew I needed these to offer to you the moment I saw them. This lovely pair of antique Victorian highly detailed sculptures of the famed Marly rearing horse and groom sculptures are after the stone originals by Guillaume Coustou and will look amazing on your mantle, or wherever you decide. These small replica sculptures were done by many different artists in the late 19th century and were all the rage. Most were never signed but show the original signature of Coustou on the base, as do these. This handsome pair are cast in spelter, an alloy of which zinc is the main constituent, and have an exquisite age patina. They are mounted on their original black painted wood bases. Each sculpture is similar but different.
The original stone Marly horse sculptures were commissioned by Louis XV of France for the trough at the entrance to the grounds of his chateau de Marly. These horses and grooms were Coustou’s last works and took him only two years to complete. The originals were moved in 1794 to the place de la Concorde and restored in 1840. However, in1984 because of damage being incurred by military parades they were moved to a courtyard in the Richelieu wing of the Louvre and replaced by marble copies made by Michel Bourbon.
You can own your own little piece of French history with this incredible pair. You need to make them yours!!

There he is… out in the distance standing on the cliffs edge, rearing with a colossal power that only a wild stallion exudes… Thrusting his hooves at the setting sun as if to say, “this is MY mountain, MY meadows, and MY heard.” He commands attention, he is dignified, and he is EXQUISITE. We have a marvelous cast metal bronze tone stylized rearing horse standing on a beautiful black marble base to offer to you. Attributed to C. Jere (a.k.a.) Curtis Jere which is not a single artist but is a nom-de-plume for a group of artists working for Artisan House and well known for their phenomenal jewelry, metal sculptures, and collectibles. And this abstract rearing horse is a perfect example of their remarkable pieces!! Unlike other rearing horse sculptures, this one has a single back and front leg… it appears to have been cast this way and we think he is extraordinary. This sculpture will look fabulous on your desk, coffee table, or on a shelf in any room of your home. And though it’s modern, it will be beautiful anywhere you want to add a little abstract flair. This is just the sculpture you’ve been looking for!
Artisan House artists included founders Curtis Freiler and Jerry Fels and Curtis Jere is a combination of their names. Before founding Artisan House these two friends and brothers-in-law had built a costume jewelry business which sold under the names of Renoir and Matisse, two well-known names of mid-20th century costume jewelry. During the mid-20th century, the C. Jere sculptures, and metal work were distributed by Raymor, a well-known name in Mid Century collectibles, and sold at Gump’s in San Francisco and other upscale retail establishments. Jerry Fels died 11...

Old Ecclesiastical Religious Art Sacred Heart of Jesus Plaster Statue Sculpture
Located in Topeka, KS
Glorious Late 19th to Early 20th Century Ecclesiastical Religious Art Sacred Heart of Jesus plaster statue sculpture upon a gilded wood base. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear even if it has been refinished or restored. Specifically, his hands only had the wire structure so new hand-molded & crafted hands were created by our professional craftsmen and the wood on the base was bad so it has been given a new gilded wood base. He has many chips in the plaster that have been repaired and the whole statue has been shellacked. Please see photos, zoom in for details, and see long description as they are part of the condition report. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, Late 19th – Early 20th Century.
Heaven knows we could all use a little more Jesus in our lives!! Well, your prayers have just been answered!!! This is an absolutely magnificent Ecclesiastical Religious Art plaster statue of The Sacred Heart of Jesus. He is comprised of hand sculpted and hand painted plaster and he stands about 43 inches tall upon a square flat edge gilded wood base. He has handsome, realistic, intricately hand painted facial features, and his glorious dark brown shoulder length hair drapes gracefully upon his shoulders. He wears a lovely, flowing robe featuring the Sacred Heart symbol upon his chest and his beautiful bare feet are exposed at the base of his robe. His enticing hands are open and reaching out as if to welcome you into his arms. The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus is one of the most widely practiced Catholic Faith devotions wherein the heart of Jesus Christ is viewed as a symbol of “God’s boundless and passionate love for mankind.” The Sacred Heart is depicted as a flaming heart shining from behind with divine light, pierced by the lance with a bleeding wound, and encircled by the crown of thorns. And Christian faith depicts it more as a flaming heart, while the wounds and crown of thorns allude to the manner of Christ’s passion and the flames a furnace of ardent love. You can depict it how you choose! We believe that his original home was most likely a wonderful old church where he was admired for many years. Due to his materials, he should only be exhibited indoors…. Which is exactly where we all need the Lord to be anyway… on the inside!!! He will be absolutely divine in your entry way or heavenly in a sunroom surrounded by indoor foliage or faux plants & trees. He has an all-over “perfectly imperfect” aged patina, a few “character enhancing” chips that you would expect given his vintage age, and an angelic aura...
