1920s French Terracotta Bust by Saint-Clément Copy of Settignanos Laughing Boy

This is an iconic art deco centerpiece from the famous French earthenware factory Saint Clément, established in 1758. The model was designed by the French sculpture Charles Lemanceau (1905-1980) and put into production in the mid-1930s. This specific piece has the advantage of being glazed in the the famous green "trademark" color of Saint Clément. The brown glazed version is more common and not so hard to find. A rare set of two matching antique lanterns (pendant lamps). The lanterns have no maker's markings but most likely dates from the early 1900s. Their design is strongly inspired by the Arts and Crafts mouvement (1880-1920). The lanterns have been sourced in Northeastern France. These antique lanterns are made to be suspended. The structure of the lanterns is made of metal, most likely a copper alloy. The inside is made of slightly amber colored/smokey glass that has been mouth blown into the wrought metal frame in one single piece. When lightened, the light does not only shine through the body of the lantern but also through the small, circular glass sections on the top and on the bottom of the lantern. The lanterns are sold unwired. There is a hole on the top of each lantern for easy wiring, i.e. fit for a wire with a light socket. They can thus easily be adapted to any voltage (see photo). The lanterns are sold without lighting chains...

These four original carbon prints have been made by the French publishing house Maison Braun & Cie. (see labels on the backs). The company was launched in 1853 in the town of Dornach, Alsace, France by Adolphe Braun (1812-1877). The company specialized in (large) reproductions of artworks and came to open offices in Paris (1868), London and New York. In 1883 the company, which had been taken over by Adolphe's son and other family members, became the official and sole photographer/publisher for the Louvre Museum in Paris and other stately owned museums in France. They also had a very impressive sale list of images from other reputed European museums and collections. The company was taken over in the 1950s and the brand ceased to exist in 1969. This set consists of four framed, original carbon prints of late middle-age religious paintings by Italian masters. These prints most likely date from late 1800s or early 1900s. The two large angels are sections from the Linaiuoli Triptych, dated 1433 and painted by the Italian artist Fra Angelico (circa 1387-1455). He is often referred to as the "painter of angels". The female saint holding a book is from the artwork "Annunciation" by the Italian painter Fra Filippo Lippi...
