About the Item

This elegant 19th-century plaster bust represents Jean-Baptiste Colbert, the powerful Minister of Finances under Louis XIV, and is executed after the renowned model by Antoine Coysevox (1640–1720). The sculpture is made of beautifully patinated plaster imitating veined marble, a technique commonly used in the 19th century for academic and decorative casts. It features: – Exceptionally detailed curls characteristic of Coysevox’s Baroque portraiture – A deeply sculpted lace jabot – Richly modelled drapery across the chest – A star-and-dove emblem on the shoulder – Mounted on a painted plaster base imitating colored marble A striking decorative piece with strong presence, ideal for libraries, entrance halls, or classical interiors.
