Pair of 19th Century Busts After Albert Ernest Carrier-Belleuse

About the Item

This pair of 19th century busts are after noted French sculptor Albert Ernest Carrier-Belleuse (1824 - 1887). The pieces are exquisitely detailed and depict the head and torso of a maiden, one of whom is turned to the left while the other is turned to the right. The busts have been finished in silvered patination which has acquired a pleasingly weathered appearance, adding to their visual interest. The busts rest upon gilded socles which are mounted on square rogue marble plinths. The pieces are signed to the verso "A. Carrier" in the manner of the sculptor's early works. These well matched busts display beautifully and are lovely examples of the artist's oeuvre. A striking pair ideal for flanking a mantel or mirror.
