This plaster bust sculpture was manufactured in 1961 by Austin Productions, a company known for its high-quality reproductions of classical works. Based on Constantin Brâncuşi's 1913 sculpture 'Mademoiselle Pogany', this piece embodies the modern, simplified forms that Brâncuşi pioneered.
Crafted from plaster and resin, the bust depicts an unadorned female head with a slender neck and gently rounded features. Devoid of intricate detail, her face conveys a sense of movement and vitality. The pale, matte finish allows the graceful contours to take center stage. The figure rests atop a small wood base painted in black, in tune with Brancusi's minimalist aesthetic. The manufacturer's signature and date of production are present on the back of the sculpture.
Brâncuşi was a seminal sculptor of the 20th century, known for reducing forms to their essence. His innovative sculptures eliminated decorative elements in favor of organic, flowing lines that helped define Modernism. This bust pays homage to his groundbreaking vision while exemplifying the mid-century appeal of clean lines and simplified forms. Though mass-produced, it reflects the spirit of a true Modern master.
