Bust of Marie-Antoinette in Terracotta, after F. Lecomte – 1920

About the Item

Terracotta bust of Marie-Antoinette after Félix Lecomte (1737-1817), French sculptor, notably winner of the Prix de Rome in 1758, and member of the French Academy. The artist depicts the last queen of France, Marie-Antoinette, with her head turned slightly to the right. Her hairstyle, made of a braid and curls, is complemented by a composition of flowers, leaves, and berries. The young woman is dressed in lace, concealed under an ermine-lined cloak embroidered with fleurs-de-lis, a symbol of royalty, and tied with a cord. Around her neck, she wears a medallion representing her husband, King Louis XVI. This work rests on a square-based pedestal. One will be struck by the representation of this woman with a tragic destiny, who wrote the history of France. ********* Period: 1920 Excellent condition.
