Celeste Polycroniadi “Cross Scape” Sculpture

About the Item

This is a clay over wood sculpture titled 'Cross Scape' by Greek artist Celeste Polycroniadi (1904-1985). Polycroniadi was born in Athens in 1904 and moved to Paris in 1930 to study at The Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers and Académie Grand Chaumière. In 1946 she moved to New York and studied at The Art Students League. She settled back into life in Athens in 1960. She has presented in over 10 solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions all over the world and is considered to be one of the pioneers of abstraction in Greece.
