French C 18th Terracotta Bust of a Gentleman

About the Item

After a model attributed to Jean Antoine Houdon, possibly Nicolas Joseph Laurent Gilbert (1750 - 1780), poet. Superbly sculpted in a coat and ruffled shirt set on a waisted socle. The rear of the bust showing the sculptor's thumb-prints where he has worked the clay. A beautiful and atmospheric late C18th bust.
