About the Item
1950s Italian Modern Plaster Sculpture “Head of a young boy” by Ida Fuà
Very important plaster sculpture depicting a young boy by the great italian artist Ida Fuà
The boy, caught in a gaze of rare intensity and depth, has his head bowed to one side in an attitude of languid transport.
Every item of our Gallery, upon request, is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity issued by Sabrina Egidi official Expert in Italian furniture for the Chamber of Commerce of Rome and for the Rome Civil Courts.
Ida Fua is a Jewish artist, lived during the years of fascism and racial laws; Ida Fua is an invisible artist, a woman who had to hide herself with her own art.
Coming from the rich family Lolli and wife of Carlo Fua, Industrial director of the village Crespi D’adda, IDA spent most of his life in Torno, a small town on Lake Como, where he sought refuge and protection in his solitary villa surrounded by greenery.
Here, in his atelier with Lake view, he produced most of his works: these are sculptures depicting faces, busts and particular human profiles that look like an aesthetic expression of his own personal drama.
To strike with greater strength are probably the eyes of these figures: they are eyes from the missed gaze, eyes that perhaps dream a elsewhere.
No one looks at the spectator, nor does he support a direct relationship with him, as in indicating an impossibility of communication, to experience the other.
In the omission, however, the gesture appears rich in meaning and full of emotion, ultimately returning a sign of hope: in these untouched eyes it leaks the desire to recover the gaze, to affirm its own willingness to exist, to be there.

A beautiful, stylized bust by Anne Van Kleeck, circa 1950s. Plaster, heavy, this unique sculpture has a real mid-century feel and timeless presence. From the artist's estate.
A note about the artist: Anne Van Kleeck was primarily known for her works in cast bronze and ceramics. She attended Ohio Wesleyan University (B.A.) and Ohio State University (M.A.) and spent several years as a professor of art in Ohio and Florida. In 1957, Anne traveled to Venice, Italy to study bronze and lost wax casting, beaten iron and mosaic techniques. During that stay she employed an Italian foundry expert and together they established a small foundry on the island of Murano where they cast bronzes for her one woman show in Venice. Van Kleecks work has won multiple awards and is owned worldwide by private collectors and museums, including the Metropolitan Museum and MOMA in New York.
