Sculpture of Zephyr in Bronze, 19th Century
About the Item
Bronze bust with a medal patina representing a young man with a childish look and butterfly wings. He is wearing a drape held by a knot on his chest. His bodice is decorated with a rose. In his curly hair is a butterfly. It is Zephyrus, god of the west wind who carries with him Psyche, symbolized by the butterfly. The sculpture rests on an architectural pedestal.
In the myth of Love and Psyche, Zephyrus is responsible for carrying the young woman to the palace of Eros. Psyche is a beautiful woman, which makes Aphrodite jealous. The goddess and asks her son Eros to make her fall in love with a repulsive being. Instead, he falls in love with her and asks Zephyrus to take her away while her father has abandoned her on a steep cliff. She then becomes the wife of Love, whose identity she must not seek to know. The story of Love and Psyche is particularly appreciated in the 19th century.
